Benny Domestic Shorthair Kitten Male in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

My story
Hi! My name is Benny and I am about 2 months old. I was brought to the Pet Pantry with my siblings Tootie and Wolfie. We were found as strays in rough shape. We had ringworm and need medical treatment. We were sent out to foster for treatment and love. We are now negative for ringworm and looking for our furever home. When we were teste for FIV/FeLV at the time of our surgery, our test did come up positive. Here is a medical note from our veterinarian:

Update: The Idexx FeLV /FIV test done on Benny today showed a weak positive result for FIV. This means Benny still has antibodies for the Immunodeficiency Virus. Although the test is qualitative (yes or no) and not quantitative (how many antibodies present), and his siblings' tests performed in the same way, it appears that he is reverting to a negative test. The best time to re-test Benny is after he reaches 6 months of age.

Benny tested positive at 10 weeks for FIV antibodies with the Idexx SNAP test. This means that she either received antibodies from her mother's milk or she is infected with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Tootie should be re-tested at 12 weeks as her test should be negative if her antibodies are from her mom. If she still has antibodies, it is likely that she will remain positive, and should be treated as infected with FIV. That being said, it is recommended that she have another test at 6 months or older as the test is most accurate in cats older than 6 months.

Because FIV is more commonly spread by deep bites wounds, Tootie may live with other healthy cats with whom she is friendly. It is not contagious to humans. A brochure published by the AAHA is provided in her adoption packet.
